Nightclub Wedding DJ Minneapolis: Christian & Ann’s Wedding
As a nightclub wedding DJ, Minneapolis couples trust us to bring years of real nightclub and festival experience to their wedding, this was exactly the kind of couple I love working with. Christian & Ann didn’t want a typical wedding reception. Instead, they wanted their own private nightclub: big lights, big energy, and a live saxophone player hyping up the crowd. Because they loved the EDM festival vibe, they wanted their guests to experience something that felt bigger than a wedding.
Christian & Ann were married in Minneapolis on September 12th. They hosted their reception at The Whim, a historic 1920s industrial warehouse in Northeast Minneapolis transformed into one of the city’s most sought-after luxury wedding venues.
Building Their “Epic” Nightclub Experience:
We built out our full “Epic” nightclub experience for their reception. This included intelligent lighting production rivaling a mid-size Minneapolis nightclub, a live saxophonist (the incredible Ray Callahan) layered over the DJ set, and a handheld CO2 cannon so Christian & Ann could blast the dance floor themselves during peak moments of the night.
The dance floor stayed packed all night with a House & EDM-driven playlist featuring artists like John Summit, Calvin Harris, Flume, Diplo, and Avicii. Because it was mixed and blended live, the music flowed the same way it would in a club — not just played back-to-back off a laptop.

Dinner and Reception Host & Emcee
One of the most overlooked but most important roles at any wedding reception is the emcee. As Christian & Ann’s wedding DJ and MC, my job wasn’t just to play music. It was to run the room. That meant keeping guests informed on what was happening next, delivering clear announcements, and making sure the timeline stayed on track from cocktail hour through last call.

After building energy through dinner, it was time for Christian & Ann’s grand entrance. As their emcee, I got the room on its feet and built the anticipation. Then I brought the couple into their reception to Disclosure – “You & Me” (Flume Remix) — the perfect high-energy intro for a couple who wanted their wedding to feel like the best party of their lives.
Time to Dance!
Once the meal was finished, the cake was cut, and toasts were given, it was time to welcome Christian & Ann to the dance floor. This was their very first dance as husband and wife.

They chose “Wild Love” by James Bay for their first dance. Right after, “Stand By Me” by Ben E. King played for their parent dances — a sweet choice that kept the sentimental moments flowing together instead of stopping and restarting the room’s energy.
As soon as the traditional dances wrapped, it was time to flip the switch. We cranked the energy up to 11, opening the dance floor with high-energy remixes of classic crowd-pleasers from Earth, Wind & Fire, ABBA, and more. As a nightclub wedding DJ, Minneapolis crowds get to hear real mixing and scratching in action, not just a laptop playing songs back-to-back — I blend different genres and decades together seamlessly, keeping the transitions smooth so every generation in the room has a reason to get up and move. From there, we eased into the House & EDM set Christian & Ann really wanted.

Many couples tell me this ends up being one of their favorite photos from the entire wedding. That’s because nearly every guest they invited is in it, all together, in one frame. It’s a simple moment, but it captures the whole reason everyone showed up.
As the DJ and emcee, this is one of those small but important logistics I coordinate directly with your photographer. We plan it in advance, then call everyone onto the dance floor together. The whole shot happens in under 30 seconds, because the music never stops. 1, 2, 3… hands up!

If you’re looking to add something truly memorable to your wedding reception, hiring a live musician to perform alongside your DJ might be one of the best investments you can make. When Christian & Ann wanted to take their party to the next level, we knew exactly who to call: live saxophone artist Ray Callahan.
Ray is one of the most talented live saxophone players in the Twin Cities. He teamed up with DJ Mike Nelson throughout the reception, layering live sax over the DJ set in real time and sending the energy through the roof. It’s one thing to hear a great song. It’s another to watch a saxophonist riff live over the drop while the whole room loses it.

Adding a CO2 effect to an already-packed dance floor takes the energy from a 10 to an 11. Couples consistently tell us it’s one of their guests’ favorite moments of the entire reception. As a nightclub wedding DJ, in Minneapolis I know that. there’s nothing quite like a burst of cold CO2 fog hitting the crowd at exactly the right moment in the song. It’s the kind of nightclub-style effect most wedding guests have never experienced before, and it turns a great dance floor moment into an unforgettable one.
For Christian & Ann, we brought in a handheld CO2 cannon so they could blast the crowd themselves. That way, the couple got to be part of creating that peak moment, instead of just watching it happen.

Meet DJ Mike Nelson
Mike Nelson is the owner and founder of DJ MN Events in Minneapolis. His career started right out of high school in 2005, working weekend gigs for a local DJ company. Over the next decade, he built a name in nightclubs around Minneapolis and the Midwest— opening for acts like Mike Posner, Three 6 Mafia, and Machine Gun Kelly. He also performed events for Red Bull, Louis Vuitton, and spending years as a DJ aboard Royal Caribbean. He’s since performed for Nike during Super Bowl LII and brands like Target, all while keeping weddings a constant focus every summer.
