After everything you’ve invested into your wedding day, is it really the best day ever if it doesn’t end with the best party of your life?

Surrounded by your closest family and best friends, dancing, sweating, and screaming your favorite songs from all the best moments throughout your life, that is what it’s all about!

How do you choose the right songs for your wedding dance playlist?

  • Plan to commit time
    • Digging deep takes time
  • Think back to the best moments of your life and the people you were with.
    • What was the soundtrack?
      • Do you have a favorite song with your parents?
      • Does your family have a song tradition at big family events?
      • What were the anthems you remember from the best parties you attended in college?
      • Did you and your friend group have songs you always partied to?
      • What music was playing when you and your fiancé met?
    • What are you favorite movies?
      • Looking through the movie soundtracks from your favorite films can help you find some favorites you may have forgotten about
    • Who are your favorite artists?
      • What concerts have you been to?
  • What are you favorite songs at the moment?
    • What are the songs your vibing to right now?

Take the time to think about your favorites, family favorites, and the songs you that always make you run to the dance floor.

Not every song on your list of favorites will popular on the dance floor, consider adding slower more mellow songs to your background playlist for dinner music and/or cocktail hour!

Also important to consider the songs you don’t like. Creating a “Do Not” Playlist is a great idea to help give your DJ clarity on songs to avoid.

Is there a secret ingredient to getting people on the dance floor?

Short answer, yes! You! On your wedding day people want to be where you are! If you’re hanging out at the bar, so are your friends. Heading outside for a smoke? Your friends are going out too. When you’re on the dance floor, so is everyone else! On your wedding day, it’s your energy people are following!

Tips for creating a wedding playlist:

Start early, create a list on Spotify or Apple music, something that is easy to share. Add songs as you think of or hear them. If you’re just starting the wedding planning process and you have months before your wedding date, this will give you a lot of time to build up your epic playlist. It’s much easier than trying to think of songs you maybe haven’t heard in a decade, a week before the wedding.

Prioritize yourself

It’s kind to think about the songs that your family and friends like but it’s important to remember this is your one night to have everything you want. As long as you’re having fun, everyone else will too. If a song that you LOVE isn’t popular with anyone but you, so what!? If you’re dancing and singing along, people will vibe with the energy you’re putting out and throw their hands up with you.

We never recommend sending out “song requests” on your invites. It can be really challenging for a DJ to know which requests will work best for your wedding dance when you have 100 songs requests from very dated and obscure songs most people won’t know and won’t dance to.
